Burnsville,
MN Cool Clean Technologies, Inc., has become
the worlds leading force in CO2
dry-cleaning by acquiring Hangers, Inc.s MICO2
machines and an exclusive license to the related intellectual
property from Micell Technologies.
The MICO2
is the most widely distributed CO2
dry-cleaning machine in commercial application, cleaning
almost 3,000,000 lbs. of garments since 1999. The
combination of process know-how and intellectual property
licensed from Micell will clearly position Cool Clean
to stay ahead of their competitors in the quest to
revolutionize dry-cleaning.
Micell
Technologies may have also been slightly ahead of
its time, Jon Wikstrom, President/CEO of Cool
Clean, said. However, the time for transition
is right. As a machine manufacturer, we believe we
can dramatically improve the economics and continue
to drive the change that Micell and Hangers started.
The future
of CO2 as a solvent looks particularly
bright because the dry-cleaning industrys most
commonly used solvent, perchloroethylene, or perc,
continues to face scrutiny from the U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency. California is already considering
a ban on the use of perc. The rest of the country
is expected to follow suit. Other parts of the world
have taken a more aggressive posture toward banning
the solvent.
Customer
demand for CO2 cleaning is
already strong in those areas of the country where
it is available. The CO2 process
offers consumers an environmentally friendly and healthy
option with less fading, less shrinkage, less color
loss and considerable increase in garment life.
Cool Clean
Technologies, Inc., is the manufacturer/supplier of
the CO2OL Clean
dry cleaning machine. Until the sale, Hangers, Inc.,
was the franchiser of Hangers Cleaners, which has
60 locations from Wilmington, NC to San Diego, CA.
Hangers Cleaners locations will continue to expand
throughout the United States under a trademark license
with Cool Cleans direction.
