MINNEAPOLIS,
MN, September 6, 2000 The Chart CO2OL Clean
[55](TM), the first environmentally friendly DryWash(TM)
dry cleaning machine on the West Coast is now in full
operation. Located at Betty Brite Cleaners, 3901 E.
Broadway, Long Beach, California this new technological
cleaning process was demonstrated at an open house
held on August 24, 2000. . An audience of California
State representatives and dry cleaners from across
the country came to witness the technology of the
new millennium. "Chart is committed to environmentally
sound products that free our customers from regulatory
burdens without sacrificing profits. We are excited
about being a part of this revolutionary new technology,"
said Jon Wikstrom, President of Chart Applied Technologies.
No
hazardous waste is produced from the cleaning process.
Unlike other traditional dry cleaning methods, liquid
CO2 and all detergents are environmentally friendly
leaving no hazardous materials to manage and dispose
of. The process and solvent is not subject to any
environmental regulations or liability potential from
soil or groundwater contamination. David Pollock of
Betty Brite Cleaners appreciates the environmental
safety associated with cleaning with CO2, "I'm a second
generation perc cleaner and I am concerned about the
regulatory requirements we face today and in the future.
CO2 cleaning eliminates all of these concerns and
allows me to clean items and garments that I couldn't
clean before."
The
process is very simple to use and learn. Like a conventional
process, this one uses a cleaning chamber, circulation
loop, filtration, lint trap, distillation, and storage.
The difference is that the equipment and chemistry
is specially developed to house and interact with
carbon dioxide. The gentle, cool nature of cleaning
eliminates heat setting stains, minimizes risk of
garment damage and increases garment life. The total
cleaning cycle runs 35 minutes, dry to dry, for a
true 55 pound, dry load.
Cleaning
with liquid CO2 at two beta sites in Minneapolis,
MN for the past 16 months, Chart has experienced virtually
no machine downtime. The expansion into the California
market signals increasing confidence in the CO2 technologies'
ability to be a mainstream cleaning solvent for the
roughly 50,000 U.S. dry-cleaning plants operating
today.
